Lok Tok

(1928-2012)

Lok Tok is an internationally recognized master of Chinese ink painting, especially in the realm of equine themes. In the 1940’s, he studied under the close tutelage of Xu Beihong, Qi Baishi, as well as other contemporary masters

His achievements, in more recent years, have also been recognized in Canada. In conjunction with the National Gallery of Canada and the Art Gallery of Ontario, his work was featured in the “OH! Canada Project – Art for a Nation” exhibit along with his son Yitong Lok. He was co-sponsored by the Canadian and Hong Kong governments for an exhibit in Hong Kong and was invited to exhibit his work at the Canadian Royal Winter Fair in Toronto. 

Lok Tok has taught, lectured and exhibited his work in Universities and Institutes across North America, Europe and East Asia. His paintings are in the permanent collection of The Royal Ontario Museum and the Canadian and Malaysian National Collections.

2003,He and his son Yitong sat as Jurors for Sumi-e Society of America 40th Anniversary exhibition in Washington, D.C.

2002,Lok was invited to exhibit his work at the Canadian Royal Winter Fair in Toronto

1999,He was commissioned by the Chinese Cultural Centre for Greater Toronto to paint the Grand Centerpiece to adorn its newly constructed building

2014, Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche received the gift, "Pureland in Spring" from the Weiwu abbot of the Than Hsiang Temple after he finished teaching in Malaysia;

2011, the Than Hsiang Temple of Penang, Malaysia, kept the "Pureland in Spring" by Lok Tok;
